A tipster noticed this photograph of an incredibly stylish young girl had been posted on The Sartorialist this past Saturday, but that it’s since been deleted. She writes,
This gem showed up in my Google Reader from over the weekend, he has obviously since deleted because of the neg comments, but what a creeper.
To be honest, the first thing I noticed about the photograph is not the fact that she’s using a pacifier, but how incredibly stylish and pretty she is with her naturally ombré’d hair, chic trench and moto jeans. She is a “petite Parisienne” after all, and bears a resemblance to the gorgeous and very controversial child model Thylane Blondeau.
She is using a pacifier, which apparently struck a nerve with some commenters. Cece writes, “Quite chic, but the pacifier concerns me.” Comme Fraiche said, “she looks a little too grown-up to be still needing a pacifier.” We estimate that she’s at least five or six years old and we don’t pass any judgement, but according to Children’s Memorial Hospital, dentists recommend that children should stop using a pacifier after three years of age.
We don’t know of any other instances of Scott Schuman taking a post down (not even this one, in which he called a woman “bigger,” “curvier” and “sturdy,” inspiring over a thousand negative comments). But clearly something made him decide this photo was inappropriate.
Schuman has posted photos of kids before on the Sartorialist and has even said that he taught himself to be a shutterbug by photographing his kids. He used to post photos of his own kids on the Sartorialist in its early days. But perhaps there is something about this little girl’s very adult clothes and stare when contrasted with her pacifier that makes it unsettling. But is it the same kind of unsettling as the way French children’s lingerie line Jour Apres Lune was styled? Hmm…
